I look at this rope on the ground, stretched out to mark out
what will eventually become the road we will drive on when we arrive at
Bountiful, and marvel at how we got here and how such a thing could be possible.
Once we had our garden plan to follow, it became
increasingly obvious that we needed to mark out its major features so that we
could progress to the next stage, which is the planting of trees. Let’s face it, the
trees will take the longest to grow, so we need to dig and prepare the holes, source
the trees and get ‘em in!
What a great example this has been of God not letting any
skills we have go to waste. Hubby left school some thirty five years ago to do
a carpentry apprenticeship and his first job in the trade was using building
plans to set out the foundations of whatever was being constructed. This skill has
enabled him to be brilliant at seeing the bigger picture for our garden. So,
armed with plans, measuring tape, some hot pink spray cans and a lot of rope, we managed to mark out our
road and many of the other larger features as well as the location for our bigger
trees.
It took us the whole freezing day to measure, mark and set out, and I was never more grateful to see his ability to take vision and make it solid in such abundance.
It took us the whole freezing day to measure, mark and set out, and I was never more grateful to see his ability to take vision and make it solid in such abundance.
So now when we drive in, we intentionally drive over the
rope road, following its circular sweep and dreaming of the time when it will become
a reality, skirting the fruition of all our dreaming.
There were certainly times throughout that very cold setting
out day when I was so grateful for the breaks inside in front of the fire,
hands wrapped around a hot cuppa. There were even times when the pink paint began to clog in the spray can due to the low temperatures! When I think about the contrast I am reminded of The Mamas and the Papas legendary song,
California Dreaming and its contrast between sunshine and snow and the power of dreams. How appropriate!
