Mayfield Gardens Oberon

What an amazing day we had visiting the glorious Mayfield Garden just outside Oberon in NSW. Our step counters could barely keep up with all the walking we did, drinking in the Autumn trees in all their fiery glory.

We were excited to see such a popular garden that is also cool-climate, the same as our place. Mayfield certainly didn't disappoint, as around every corner we encountered either something we have planned to plant at Bountiful or some stunning new inspiration to spur us on.

Sigh. Stunning.

Mayfield is the work of the Hawkins family, and they have created 16 hectares of gardens for the general public to view, as well as an additional 49 hectares for the exclusive use of their family. This private section is opened to the public four times a year during seasonal festivals of which Autumn is one, and happily coincided with our visit.

The view from the chapel, a high spot from which to take in just some of Mayfield.

There was so much to see, including walled gardens, a maze, a glasshouse, a chapel, several waterways and a sizable lake complete with row boats, all easily accessible and with a courtesy bus available if the walking became a little too much for anyone. A lovely cafe was also available to either begin or end a wonderful visit.

Love these walkways. Add to my list!

The lovely home of the Hawkins family, owners of Mayfield.

The view from the kitchen window of the Hawkins family home. What a backyard!

The Chook Hilton. Chooks live in style at Mayfield.

Formal gardens.

We love birch trees and plan to have quite a few, though not as many as this beautiful grove.

A wisteria walk. Tick!

We're told a glasshouse is the best way to grow lemons in a cold climate. Nice.

Peony-style roses are such a glory.

Ok, that's a truckload of photos and trust me, I culled big-time! But you'd have to agree, if you love gardens, these images are a feast for your eyes. I hope you enjoyed it.
